Surprising way celebs may vote in Election - from Holly Valance to Craig David (2024)

Celebrities all over the UK are getting ready to make their vote count on July 4th in the General Election.

After 14 years of Tory rule, Sir Keir Starmer hopes to lead Labour into power with stars, including Elton John and Deborah Meaden, throwing their support behind him.

However, it's not a clean sweep for the toolmaker's son from Surrey as stars including Steve Coogan have defected to the Green Party while Neighbours' Holly Valance is fully behind Nigel Farage's Reform.

So, as we wait and see who will be moving into Downing Street to, hopefully, take the country in a new direction, here's how the stars look set to cast their votes, starting with Team Tory...

Team Tory

Sir Bob Geldof

Sir Bob Geldof published a video where he says he will back Tory candidate Andrew Mitchell in the General Election. The Boomtown Rats singer said: "The party that Andrew Mitchell is a member of is not important to me. What is important is that he’s a decent person or else he wouldn’t be a friend of mine, I guess.’

He continued: "What we so desperately need in our Parliament, whether again in opposition or in Government, is clever, committed, capable people. We have had enough of leery shysters, buffoons and tiresome w*****s."

James Cracknell

Double Olympic gold medalist James Cracknell is running as a Conservative Party MP in Colchester. However, he described the pitiful party as a "shower of s**t" in a video posted to Facebook, saying: "Two weeks out from the Olympics if we are competing against the Conservative party my teammates and I would be saying they are a shower of s**t. And if one of my teammates got caught for cheating they’d be dead to me. That abuse of trust is unforgivable."

His comments came as more allegations emerged that Tory candidates and officials bet on the date of the general election before Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced it.

Craig David

It is not known how R&B star, Craig David, will vote in this year's election. However, in 2010 the Rewind star told The Mirror he would love the Tories to use his song Fill Me In for their campaign.

When asked in 2018 whether he was still a Tory, the star told Huck magazine: “Listen, you can easily get boxed into the duality: are you Jeremy Corbyn? Are you Theresa May? My thing is, if you feel passionate then I’m definitely down with people who say get out and vote, get out and vote."

Two years ago, former Tory leader, Theresa, was seen jubilantly dancing at a festival while the singer performed as Boris Johnson finally quit as Prime Minister. The former PM looked glamorous in a red dress with a statement jewelled necklace while watching the Selecta star strut his stuff at Henley Festival.

Going Green

Steve Coogan

The Alan Partridge star has never been shy about airing his political views. He endorsed former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn in both the 2017 and 2019 elections, but the actor has gone Green and has been campaigning for Sian Berry in Brighton Pavilion over the last few weeks.

Hugh Grant

Also going Green for the General Election is Notting Hill star, Hugh Grant. The ex-boyfriend of Liz Hurley, has endorsed Green Party candidate Carla Denyer.

In a campaign leaflet, the actor expressed his admiration for Denyer's integrity and public-centric approach, stating that he found it "so refreshing to see a politician with integrity, who puts the public first".

Kevin McCloud

Grand Design star, Kevin McCloud, has chosen to add his voice to the campaign of North Herefordshire's Green Party candidate Ellie Chowns.

The Channel 4 presenter has appeared in a video shared by Chowns on Facebook, backing her campaign in North Herefordshire. In the video, Kevin says he will be voting for Chowns because "she's brilliant and she has huge experience as an MEP and as a local councillor driving change here in this county".

Favouring Farage

Holly Valance

Australian Holly Valance (best known for appearing on Neighbours for three years and marrying billionaire Nick Candy ) is now a fully fledged member of Nigel Farage's Reform Party.

A vocal supporter of Reform UK, the actress reportedly gave the party “a substantial cheque” after Farage announced he was standing. She told the Guardian she had been “honoured to say a few words” at the former UKip leader's 60th birthday party in April, describing him as a man of “strength and conviction” whom she felt “very protective of”.

Campaigning for Keir

Sir Elton John

Sir Elton John has thrown his support behind Labour in the run-up to the General Election, leading a host of stars backing the party. The I'm Still standing star, alongside his partner David Furnish and Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington, actor James Norton, soul sensation Beverley Knight, and Dragons' Den's Deborah Meaden, to sprinkle some celebrity magic at a Labour gathering on Saturday [29th June]. lamented in his heartfelt plea: "It's heartbreaking to see the hopes of Britain's next generation of creative talent downtrodden and destroyed by bureaucracy and red tape."

Kit Harrington

Kit said he would be voting Labour because he feels they have “a practical plan” that is needed in the face of the climate crisis. He said at the rally: “The climate is teetering and we really can’t afford 14 more years of the Tories in action.”

James Norton

Stage, film and TV actor Norton, who has appeared in Happy Valley, Grantchester, War & Peace and McMafia, said the star-studded party: “I support the Labour Party’s ambition when it comes to making the arts accessible to all children, particularly in regards to their ambitions around the school’s curriculum, reintegrating the arts into kids’ lives.”

Beverley Knight

Soul singer and Olivier Award-winning actress Knight added: “I support the Labour Party’s ambition to allow all children to pursue their passions in the creative space. Because I was one of those children.”

Bill Bailey

At the Labour rally, comedian Bill Bailey gave a speech in person supporting the party - joking he had shaved his hair to emphasise that “it is time for change”.

Amy Hart

Also backing Sir Keir is Love Island's Amy Hart. The mum-of-one has been busy sharing snaps of herself campaigning for Beccy Cooper, the Labour candidate for Worthing West.

Georgia Harrison

Sticking with Love Island, Georgia Harrison is also supporting Labour. The reality star said in a video message last week that she hopes this election will be a time "to make a difference to violence against women and girls and hopefully combat the misogyny that we're currently dealing with as a society".
