What can I use instead of acetate sheet for crafts? ›

If you're looking for a more affordable alternative, try overhead projector transparencies.

Anything like the pens for writing on CDs or an old set of overhead projector pens would also do the job. I made some clear Christmas ball ornaments that had an acetate piece fitted inside. I stamped the image with Stazon and colored on the opposite side from the ink with my Bic Markers.

Adhesive: Low heat hot glue (high heat was too hot and melted the sheet) is what worked best for me. My go to liquid glue would not stick and although my favorite tape runner held a strong bond, it showed through the clear acetate sheet.

You could use baking paper but the result is not going to be as good.

Transparency sheets are typically acetate or sometimes polyester (Mylar), and they are found in many common document dimensions. They are printed on through an electrostatic toner process (e.g. laser printer or Xerox copier).

How I made my stencil using an acetate sheet. First I cut a portrait card base using Basic White Thick card stock. Next I cut a mat layer using Basic White card stock. Using one of the thicker acetate sheets that come in our stamp sets I die cut a circle out of it using one of the circles from the Stylish Shapes dies.

You may think that you can only use them on canvas, but you can also use them on wood, metal, paper and glass. Sheer glue from Queen and Company

Queen and Company sells a product called Sheer Glue which is made specifically for adhering acetate to foam for shaker cards.

Acetate can be used in multiple ways

You can photocopy something onto acetate to add a layer / overlay to something you have drawn. Acetate can be drawn on directly. You can also use the acetate as a tracing medium and then do more with the traced image.

Turn the Smart Set Dial to "Custom" and select "Foil Acetate" from the list of custom materials. Select "Browse all materials," then select "Foil Acetate". Important: Results may vary. Always do a test cut to verify settings.

Like rayon, acetate is often used as a substitute for silk, but acetate is much weaker than either rayon or silk and is generally used for apparel that will not be worn often (Kadolph, Langford, Hollen & Saddler, 1993).
